Michael James, BSN, an operating room nurse at St. Mary Medical Center, was recently presented with the prestigious DAISY Award for going above and beyond in caring for patients.
James, who joined the hospital in October 2022, was nominated by a patient for the “exceptional compassion and care he consistently demonstrates—not only within the hospital, but also in his actions outside of work.”
The DAISY Award—developed by The DAISY Foundation more than 25 years ago—is a recognition program to celebrate and thank nurses for the extraordinary care, kindness and compassion they provide daily. Nurses may be nominated by patients, families or colleagues.
All awardees, including James, are celebrated with a certificate, Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, pin, banner and other treats. They also become eligible for continuing education, professional development and wellbeing benefits.
James’ manager, Stephanie Harvilla, RN, BSN, CNOR, operating room nurse manager, says, “Michael exemplifies our core values of stewardship, reverence and integrity, serving as a true reflection of who we strive to be as health care within the community. His commitment to others makes him a remarkable role model for our team.”
