Osteopathic Recognition at St. Mary

Letter from the Director of Osteopathic Education
Thank you for your interest in Osteopathic Recognition! St. Mary Medical Center is very proud of the fact that we obtained Osteopathic Recognition for both our Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs. We are committed to educating our osteopathic residents and any allopathic medical residents who would like to augment their training in osteopathic principles and practices. All Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who graduate from their College of Osteopathic Medicine will automatically be enrolled in the Osteopathic Recognition program once they join our Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Residency Programs. Allopathic residents who wish to officially participate in Osteopathic Recognition must complete the prerequisites by January 15 of their intern year. All residents are welcome to learn more about osteopathic medicine!
We have set up a curriculum that encourages residents to incorporate osteopathic philosophy and to utilize osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) in their approach to patient care both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Residents from both programs participate in osteopathic inpatient rounds at St. Mary Medical Center. Residents have the opportunity to utilize OMT during outpatient continuity clinic sessions, and they are encouraged to treat patients in their respective inpatient rotations and outpatient clinics. St. Mary partners with Nazareth Hospital residency programs in our regional osteopathic grand rounds on a quarterly basis. During these conferences, residents, students and faculty further hone their osteopathic skills through didactic sessions, hands-on workshops, and evaluation of osteopathic literature through dedicated journal article review.
Our goal is to produce physicians who embody osteopathic principles and practices in their care of the whole person.
We look forward to having you join us in the program!
Sincerely,
Beth Vitucci, DO
