Hospital Medicine Track

The Hospital Medicine Track (HMT) at St. Mary Medical Center is a program designed to cultivate and develop PGY-3s with career goals in hospital medicine.
The track is a focused curriculum within the Internal Medicine Residency designed to surpass the traditional internal medicine teachings within hospital medicine. The HMT concentrates on topics including systems-based practice, health system improvement and value-based care. The primary goal for the HMT is to provide PGY-3s the tools to transition seamlessly from a senior resident to a well-rounded and efficient hospitalist attending.
The HMT will be a total 4-week course completed during the PGY-3 year. Residents will apply and be selected for the track from a panel of supervising attendings. The 4 weeks will include rotations with direct clinical hospital medicine, quality and safety, and medical consultation. In addition, the selected residents will participate in hospital-based meetings including Daily institutional Report, Department of Medicine Meeting and participate in direct observation with CMO, DIO, and care management. At the culmination of the HMT the participants will have observed several career paths within hospital medicine such as resident education, physician advisory roles, and health care executive leadership.
