After Your ED Visit

We are always thankful when we can discharge patients, as it means we have ruled out life-threatening illnesses that do not require further emergent interventions in the hospital.

However, follow up with your primary care team and established specialist is critical to monitor your symptoms and, in some cases, complete a further non-emergent work up.

Please ask us any questions that you have before you are discharged so we can make sure that you fully understand your discharge plan.

Following up with the right outpatient providers will allow you to:

• Review your testing from the ED to make sure you fully understand your care plan.
• Follow up any questions that may have arisen since your visit.
• Discuss any further nonemergent testing that may be indicated to further evaluate your condition and discuss any additional concerns that you may have.

Your primary care team is one of the best resources to help you manage your ongoing medical conditions. It is important to maintain a good line of communication between you and your doctor. Of course, if you have any change or progression in your symptoms that you find concerning, please return to the ED for reevaluation.
