Good Food Good HospitalsNewtown Square, Pa. – (November 14, 2025) – Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is proud to announce that St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa., Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa., and Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia have been recognized by Good Food, Healthy Hospitals (GFHH), a statewide initiative administered by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) aimed at improving the health of communities through better nutrition. Hospitals are recognized for implementing innovative practices that promote healthy food and beverage options.

This fall, 68 hospitals across 31 counties in Pennsylvania are being recognized for their annual achievements. GFHH celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year, marking a decade of impact.

GFHH program participants target food served throughout the hospital, including patient meals, cafeteria offerings, catering menus and vending machine options. GFHH supports achievement by providing purchasing standards, implementation assistance and marketing materials to educate patients, staff and the community.

“Our commitment to the well-being of our patients and community extends well beyond the exam room,” says Tom Boyd, regional director of Trinity Health hospitality services. “By serving fresh and nutritious meals in our hospital and promoting healthy food choices, we’re supporting our patients’ overall health while setting an example for healthy living in our community.”

GFHH participants sign a pledge to promote good health care through nutritious food choices, implementing initiatives such as:

  • Offering more fresh fruits and vegetables, nutritionally dense food, natural beverages and plant-based options
  • Promoting healthy options with signs, posters and brochures
  • Providing nutrition information
  • Incentivizing purchases of healthy foods
  • Offering fewer sugar-sweetened beverages, packaged snacks, unhealthy fats and highly processed foods

Nazareth Hospital signed the GFHH pledge in 2016. Nazareth’s silver level of recognition for 2025 represents achievement in implementing three GFHH standards: Food and Beverages Served in Patient Meals, Catering and Vending.

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital signed the GFHH pledge in 2018. Mercy Fitzgerald’s participant level of recognition for 2025 represents achievement in implementing one GFHH standard: Food and Beverages Served in Patient Meals.

St. Mary Medical Center signed the GFHH pledge in 2020. St. Mary’s participant level of recognition for 2025 represents achievement in implementing one GFHH standard: Food and Beverages Served in Patient Meals.

"We congratulate Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic on this recognition and thank them for being good food leaders in their community," says Shelley Chamberlain, Healthy Food in Healthcare specialist. “As we celebrate a decade of advancing nutritious food access across the commonwealth, we are proud to honor the Good Food, Health Hospital participants who work to promote a culture of health through good food choices.”
