Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital achieves CATH/PCI reaccreditation from Corazon
September 4, 2025 Darby, Pa. – (September 4, 2025) – Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is excited to announce CATH/PCI reaccreditation from Corazon. Corazon, a national leader in services for the cardiovascular specialty based in Pittsburgh, Pa., has granted accreditation to the PCI program after a rigorous process. The reaccreditation proves that Mercy Fitzgerald’s program has once again met or exceeded Corazon’s accreditation standards, national societal guidelines and the requirements established by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH).
“Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital has demonstrated through its accreditation survey that they are committed to providing the highest quality level of care to their patient community,” says Ross Swanson, president and CEO of Corazon. “Their dedication, hard work and exceptional leadership have allowed this opportunity to engage their entire hospital team, enhance their cardiac service line and excel through this accreditation.”
Corazon has worked with over 600 hospitals nationally to evaluate, re-engineer, or implement best-practice PCI programs. Corazon is a long-time champion for PCI without onsite open-heart surgery (OHS) and notably assisted with the opening of the first PCI program of this type in Pennsylvania.
“Mercy Fitzgerald continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing excellent heart care to our greater community,” says Martin O’Riordan, MD, FACC, chief of cardiology at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. “Our commitment to providing the highest patient satisfaction is at the forefront of our mission and this recognition of our PCI program proves that.”
As an accrediting agency on behalf of the PA DOH, Corazon helps to ensure life-saving services are provided in communities across the state.
