A Welcome from the Residents
Welcome to the Nazareth Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency! We’re a small, tight knit program with six residents per class, and the strength of our community is truly what defines us. Our team brings together residents from across the country and around the world, creating a diverse, collaborative environment where everyone feels supported and valued.
Nazareth Hospital is a community hospital in Northeast Philadelphia, surrounded by many nursing homes and long term care facilities. Because of this, we see a high volume of critically ill patients—septic shock, STEMI, stroke, respiratory failure, fall traumas, and complex medical emergencies. We perform all emergent procedures such as intubations, central lines, chest tubes, reductions, resuscitations and work closely with in house specialists and academic partners across the city.
Our faculty are experienced educators with backgrounds at major academic centers. They bring evidence based emergency medicine, hands on teaching, and mentorship that guides us through every stage of training.
We’re a three year program with an extensive didactic curriculum that includes weekly conference, simulation, procedure labs, ultrasound workshops, and interdisciplinary learning. As a newer residency, residents have played a major role in shaping the program—from wellness initiatives to scheduling to educational development, and that sense of ownership continues today.
One of the things that makes Nazareth special is how close we are as a cohort. We have a big sib/lil sib system, pairing each incoming resident with a senior who helps them navigate the transition, both inside and outside the hospital. Because we’re a small group, it’s easy to share experiences, ask questions, and lean on each other. The support feels genuine.
The culture in our ED is unmistakably Philly—hardworking, gritty and full of personality. Our nurses and ancillary staff are incredibly skilled and efficient; many are trained in ultrasound guided IV access, making teamwork seamless during busy shifts.
Outside the hospital, residents enjoy living in Center City or nearby neighborhoods with quick commutes, great food, and plenty to explore. Others choose Northeast Philadelphia for its affordability, diversity and family friendly feel, with an easy drive down I 95 into the city.
If you’re looking for a residency where you can grow, lead, and help shape the future of a program while training in a high volume, high acuity community ED, we’d love to meet you.
