Yvonne VegaWilmington, Del. – (March 4, 2025) – Saint Francis Hospital recently presented a DAISY® Award to Yvonne Vega, RN, a nursing senior team lead in the Emergency Department (ED).

Vega was nominated for this prestigious award by a patient’s family member for providing extraordinary and compassionate care to not only her patient, but to the family member who nominated her. The nomination form noted Vega’s kind and caring nature, and that she treated the patient and family as if they were members of her own family. Vega helped bring a calm to the patient’s family on a very trying day and they will never forget her.

Vega often has a heavy patient case load, on top of mentoring junior nurses and providing administrative support to the ED team. However, she has never lost sight of the compassionate treatment of every patient who walks through the Emergency Department’s doors.

Vega joined Saint Francis Hospital in November 2007 as a staff nurse and was quickly promoted to senior team lead. In November 2024, she was promoted into her current role as nursing supervisor. Over the course of her 18-year career, Vega has always been known as a kind and caring nurse who is always attentive to her patients’ needs.

“Yvonne is everything the DAISY Award stands for,” said Donna Casey, BSN, MA, DNP, director of Nursing at Saint Francis Hospital. “She has been a valuable member to the team who is very committed to the city of Wilmington. Her clinical excellence has constantly stood out amongst her peers and the care she continues to provide after 18 years of dedicated service to our mission deserves celebrating.”

The DAISY Award is a program that recognizes excellence in nursing. It was created by The DAISY Foundation to highlight the clinical skills, extraordinary passion and care exemplified by nurses every day.
