Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital named among leading hospitals for heart attack care

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2026) – The American College of Cardiology awarded Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa., part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, the NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2026. Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is one of only 350 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.
The award recognizes Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s commitment to and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. It also signifies that the hospital has achieved aggressive treatment goals and delivered care consistent with American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication, expertise and teamwork of our physicians, nurses and clinical staff who work every day to ensure heart attack patients receive timely, evidence-based care that leads to the best possible outcomes,” said Le-Ann Harris, DNP, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, interim president of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital and regional chief nursing officer.
Recipients of the Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award must demonstrate sustained achievement in the Chest Pain – MI Registry for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025) and perform at the highest level for specific performance measures. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year.
Chest Pain – MI Registry empowers health care providers to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines. It also establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.
