mri patientSince its opening in 2006, St. Mary Imaging at Richboro has been offering a community-focused environment for those in need of diagnostic imaging studies. Here, patients aren’t just another face or number—they’re family.

Located in the Richboro Shopping Center at 1059 Second Street Pike, this extension of St. Mary Medical Center’s on-campus imaging services prides itself on delivering the best patient experience possible. This is why folks from across Bucks County—from Bensalem to Bristol to Levittown—have been making the journey to Richboro for the past two decades.

“We treat everybody as if it was our family member. We provide the same treatment that we’d give a loved one, or that we’d want for ourselves,” says Shaunna Braker, the imaging center’s supervisor. “It’s all about respect.”

A range of modalities are offered at St. Mary Imaging at Richboro, including bone density (DEXA), 3D mammography, CAT scan, digital X-ray, ultrasound imaging, body composition analysis (BMI), general radiology and MRI. The MRI unit is newly upgraded, featuring a wide bore MRI that can do cardiac MRIs, prostate cancer screenings and elastographies.

Enhancing the patient experience

Convenience is a top priority at St. Mary Imaging at Richboro, from the patient’s initial outreach for an appointment to them arriving on site for their test. Some modalities—like X-ray—don’t require an appointment, with walk-ins available during operating hours. Beginning in mid-September, X-ray availability will be expanded to include four evenings a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mammography services are also available for walk-ins.

As for patients who need an MRI, they can typically schedule an appointment a week or two in advance. This service has already been expanded to four nights a week, in addition to every other Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon. Those calling for a CAT scan can usually be seen the same day (these are only offered during daytime hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

The staff here, we consider this our Richboro family. They’re very outgoing, very pleasant, very accommodating. It’s a different feel versus the hospital, where it can feel a little overwhelming. Over here, it’s very calm. It’s just a free-flowing facility.” – Shaunna Braker

Upon arrival, patients can park right outside St. Mary Imaging at Richboro. Given its location in the shopping center, plenty of spots are available within a few feet of the entrance. Once inside, there’s a quick check-in process and, sometimes, the chance to be seen ahead of schedule.

“All of our patients are asked to arrive early for their appointments. If we don’t have a patient at that time, we’re going to take you earlier,” says Braker. “So there are times where you will actually get your test done and be walking out the door before your appointment time. You’re in and out and can go about your day. It’s a fast-paced facility.”

During their appointments, patients are cared for by a team of experienced techs, whom Braker says work to establish a relaxed environment at St. Mary Imaging at Richboro.

“The staff here, we consider this our Richboro family. They’re very outgoing, very pleasant, very accommodating. It’s a different feel versus the hospital, where it can feel a little overwhelming [for some patients],” says Braker. “Over here, it’s very calm. It’s just a free-flowing facility.”
