Emergency Medicine Residency Program Overview

Nazareth Hospital is excited to announce that we have successfully launched an accredited ACGME program in Emergency Medicine. Starting July 2020 we will have our first Emergency Medicine class!

Nazareth Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is located in the busy Northeast section of Philadelphia, 20 minutes north of Center City Philadelphia. The hospital is situated only 2-3 hours away from New York City, the New Jersey Shore, the Baltimore Harbor and Washington D.C.

The Emergency Department serves over 51,000 patients each year. Nazareth Hospital’s 205 acute and 28 skilled beds accommodate over 8,000 admissions yearly. We are a nationally certified stroke care, and emergency cardiac catheterization center.

Nazareth serves a diverse population of all ages with varied economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. This ensures trainees exposure to a wide range of health issues.

The program is a three-year training program (post-graduate year 1,2,3) which accepts six residents each year for a total of 18 residents. Nazareth Hospital will be the primary emergency medicine rotation site with additional rotations at St. Christopher’s for Pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania for Trauma and St. Mary’s for Ob.

These sites are less than 30 minutes from Nazareth Hospital and will help to ensure a well- rounded training experience for our residents. In addition, our curriculum offers ample elective rotations, research, and administration time for the residents to explore and pursue their professional interests. Our didactic series focuses on small group learning and is unique as we have incorporated wellness, communication and leadership skills series within our curriculum.

Graduates will be competent in the medical knowledge base of emergency medicine and skilled in all key procedures mandated by ACGME. After completing training from this supportive resident driven program they will feel confident to practice in any setting, whether it community focused or academic centered. Our unique didactic incorporate wellness, communication and leadership skills to ensure well rounded training for our residents.

We hope you will want to learn more about our inaugural program, by calling or visiting.
