A Letter from Hugh Bonner, MD
The Saint Francis Hospital Family Medicine Residency has welcomed six new residents for the class of 2028 and graduated six residents for the class of 2025. We celebrated their graduation on Friday, June 27.
The residency remains engaged with the 2025 Delaware Academy of Family Physicians (DAFP). At the annual scientific assembly in May 2025, residents Jacob Scott, MD, and Thomas Bonitz, DO, jointly presented a talk entitled “Precision Medicine: Tailoring Treatments Based on Individual Genetic Profiles.” Resident Merna Haridi, MD, submitted a poster on vaccination quality initiatives that she and Melissa Tribuiani, MD, worked on in the office. Her poster won first prize. Faculty members Melissa Tribuiani, MD, and David Hack, MD, continue to serve on the DAFP Board of Directors. Brian McDonough, MD, our GMEC chair, will be joining them. Third-year resident Amanpreet Aujla, MD, is also serving on the Board. In addition, our recent class of 2025 graduate, Ghazaleh Barghgir, MD, published an article entitled “Snore No More: A Family Medicine Guide to Sleep Apnea” in the most recent edition of DelFamDoc, the DAFP’s journal.
We are preparing for two upcoming conferences. From July 31 to August 2, Maria Nadales, MD, Ahmad Hamade, MD, Vanessa Boosahda, MD, and I will be attending the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Future 2025 conference in Kansas City, Mo. In September, Robert Monteleone, MD, Melissa Tribuiani, MD, Jennifer Ranton, MD, and residents will attend the Family Medicine Education Consortium, Inc. (FMEC) in Cleveland, Ohio. They will be teaching a workshop at this event. Dr. Hack is preparing to serve as Alternate Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates in October.
Congratulations to faculty member Jennifer Ranton, MD, for her award as DAFP Teacher of the Year. We congratulate Dr. McDonough, who has authored a chapter in the new textbook titled Healthcare Administration, Leadership, and Management (HALM), The Essentials, published in 2025. Thanks to Dr. Monteleone, who has just returned from a medical trip to Peru. Appreciation to Valerie Faure, PsyD, who brought back helpful recommendations from the AAFP Residency Leadership Summit that she recently attended. Among these, we were introduced to a new artificial intelligence product called OpenEvidence.
We look forward to the upcoming academic year and anticipate new growth opportunities.
Sincerely,
Hugh Bonner III, MD, FAAFP
