Civic Duty – Make Change
Your civic duty to vote is a foundational responsibility in a democratic system of government. Physicians are often perceived as leaders in their community and need to be knowledgeable about how the government impacts the patients they care for. Amanpreet Aujla, MD, a third-year resident, participates in the Advocacy Committee on a state level to discuss proposed legislation and meet with senators and representatives to voice their opinion.
Twice a year, residents from the Family Medicine Residency program participate in Candidate’s Night to discuss proposed legislation with state senators and representatives. Getting residents involved in advocacy not only gives them a perspective on patient care across larger systems but also prepares them for future leadership responsibilities.
