A Letter from Hugh Bonner, MD
The residency continues to be busy and productive. It is interview season, and we are meeting applicants for the class of 2028. Thanks to the work of Louise diGenova, Program Coordinator, and Valerie Faure, PsyD, Director of Behavioral Health, we have an excellent group of applicants to interview.
Here are a few of our recent activities:
The residency is pleased to be a pilot site for the Nuance DAX artificial intelligence program. This program “listens” to a medical encounter and generates a progress note to include the history of present illness, physical exam, assessment, and plan. We are approximately two months into this pilot program and are pleased with the results. Benefits include a more accurate and complete note, quicker note completion, and less after-hours charting. We hope to see benefits in quality of care and physician wellness and look forward to watching this innovative technology improve and include multilingual capability.
Our team attended the Family Medicine Education Consortium (FMEC) conference in September 2024. Melissa Tribuiani, MD, and I were on the planning committee and attended along with other faculty and several residents. The experience was of high educational value for faculty and residents.
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) National Conference was from July 31 – August 2, 2024. This meeting occurs annually in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a valuable opportunity for residents in attendance to meet potential applicants, learn about fellowship programs, and meet members from family practice residencies across the nation.
Dr. Tribuiani continues to organize our medical student rotations. We have long-standing affiliations with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Working with medical students broadens the educational experience for our residents and faculty.
We look forward to the second half of the academic year and preparing another graduating class to join the community of family medicine physicians.
Sincerely,
Hugh Bonner III, MD, FAAFP
Program Director
