Sleep Issues

What are sleep disorders?

Neurologists can help people suffering from sleep disorders.Sleep disorders are very common. You may have one yourself if it’s hard for you to fall asleep or stay asleep through the night, if you wake up feeling tired, or if you feel exhausted during the day, even if you’ve had enough sleep. The most common sleep disorders are:

  • Insomnia—a hard time falling or staying asleep
  • Sleep apnea—breathing interruptions during sleep
  • Restless legs syndrome—a tingling or prickly sensation in the legs
  • Narcolepsy—daytime “sleep attacks”

In addition, there are other types of sleep problems called “parasomnias.” These include nightmares, night terrors, sleepwalking, sleep talking, head banging, wetting the bed and grinding your teeth. Most sleep disorders can be treated. It can help to have regular sleep habits.
