Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation in parts of the digestive tract; most commonly affects the innermost lining of the large intestine and rectum.

Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis

  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloody stool
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever lasting more than a day

Diagnosing Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis can be diagnosed by the following tests:

  • Barium Enema
  • Colonoscopy
  • CT Scan
  • Endoscopy
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
  • Stool Analysis

Treatment for Ulcerative Colitis

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Immune system suppressors
  • Surgery may be recommended if diet, lifestyle change, drug therapy or medications do not alleviate symptoms
