Preparing for your next wellness visit

Your annual wellness visit is meant to help keep you in better health—and what could be more important than that?

  1. Write down your questions in advance. If you have questions about your health, write them down so you don’t forget to ask them at your doctor’s office. For instance, are you having any unusual symptoms or problems with your medications?
  2. Bring a list of all the medicines you take. This includes any over-the-counter pills, vitamins or supplements. Another option: “Put all your medicines in a bag and bring them to the appointment,” says Helen Thorpe, MD, a family practice doctor at Nazareth Hospital.
  3. Be honest. Your doctor may ask you about your lifestyle habits, such as if you drink alcohol or smoke. Don’t shy away from honest answers. Telling the truth helps you get the best care possible.
  4. Speak up. Ask your doctor to explain anything you don’t understand or if you have questions about your care.
