Seniors living alone at home: Mercy LIFE keeps seniors independent

woman on phoneMercy LIFE is a program that helps older adults remain at home. It provides complete medical care. It also provides social services, home care and transportation.

“We can provide any service a senior needs to be independent,” says Johanna Yurkow, DNP, MBA, NHA, Mercy LIFE vice president of operations. “Staying at home is a better choice for many seniors than a nursing home.”

Mercy LIFE also works to keep seniors out of the hospital. With proper medical care, hospital and emergency room visits can often be reduced. “Our seniors with chronic illnesses stay healthier and live better,” explains Yurkow. “Our doctors and staff work as a team. We personalize a plan for each person we help.”

A person qualifies for Mercy LIFE if they:

  • Are 55 or older
  • Need the level of care that requires nursing facility type services
  • Can live in their community safely with Mercy LIFE services
  • Are eligible for Medicaid, Medicaid and Medicare or are able to privately pay
  • Live in zip codes 19106, 19107, 19122, 19123, 19125, 19133, 19134, 19137, 19140, 19145, 19146, 19147 or 19148
