Nazareth Hospital Launches Military and Veterans Health Program

Flag with dog tags and stethoscopeNortheast Philadelphia — (November 5, 2019): Nazareth Hospital announced the launch of its Trinity Health Military and Veterans Health Program to provide high quality, compassionate and culturally competent primary and specialty care to military service members, veterans and their families.

Through this program, Nazareth's healthcare providers and staff are trained to respond to the health concerns and challenges specific to the military community. The program's ongoing training consists of becoming familiar with the U.S. military service cultures (active, reserve and National Guard), as well as common diseases, injuries and exposures associated with active duty and deployed service members and veterans. The program also modifies the hospital's patient intake processes so that military members can be identified and appropriately cared for from their first interaction at the hospital.

"We know that military veterans and their families are receiving care in our hospital and we often have no knowledge of their military service," said Michael Magro Jr., DO, MBA, FACOI, President of Nazareth Hospital. "With this program, we hope to create an environment at Nazareth that honors our military veterans and their families and recognizes their particular health conditions and needs so that we become a recognized partner in our community to care for those who served our country so honorably."

The on-site training helps the hospital's physicians, nurses and clinicians better understand the physical, emotional and spiritual impact of operational deployments on service members and their families. With this enhanced awareness of patients’ military experience, Nazareth positions itself to provide a more comprehensive healthcare experience for its military community.

This program is also in place at Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic hospitals St. Mary Medical Center, Mercy Catholic Medical Center – Mercy Fitzgerald Campus and Mercy Catholic Medical Center – Mercy Philadelphia Campus. For more information, please visit www.trinityhealthma.org/milvets.
