Nazareth Hospital Emergency Residency Program Receives Accreditation by ACGME
Northeast Philadelphia – (September 25, 2019) – Nazareth Hospital has received accreditation for a new Emergency Medicine Residency Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
"This is an exciting milestone for Nazareth Hospital's Graduate Medical Education program," said Mike Magro, DO, MBA, FACOI, president, Nazareth Hospital. "This expansion offers medical students different options for residency at Nazareth and provides our community access to the next generation of emergency medicine physicians."
Nazareth Hospital's Emergency Medicine Residency Program is listed with the National Resident Matching Program and will begin interviewing medical school seniors for positions in October 2019, with applicants from around the country. Residents who are accepted into the Emergency Medicine GME program will begin July 1, 2020. The program is a three-year training program, which accepts six residents each year for a total of 18 residents.
"Nazareth's Emergency Medicine Residency offers trainees excellent training in a supportive community setting with opportunities for leadership development and an emphasis on wellness, while incorporating rotations through major academic centers such as the University of Pennsylvania and St. Christopher's Children's Hospital," said Charmaine Chan, DO, Designated Institutional Official & Osteopathic Program Director, Nazareth Hospital.
ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. Specialized training in Emergency Medicine GME residency programs takes place over a three-year period. Residency is the final phase of a long educational process, required for a physician to practice medicine, and is most influential in determining where a physician eventually practices.
